OPPOSITES ATTRACT...

Saturday...it's another gorgeous day here in sunny Florida...woke up...jumped in the pool, did an hour of water aerobics...grabbed a grapefruit, my current read, and relaxed for a bit...then hit the Studio.  I'm letting my 'muse' take me where she wants to...it appears that she wants this piece to be BOLD!

It's all abstract to me...

IGNORE NORMAL...

THOUGHTS  for the week...

If there's one thing I've never wanted to be...that is NORMAL.  

Boring comes to mind...and of course a 'setting on a washing machine'!

STOP BLOODY WORRYING...another good one that I should listen to a bit more.  

Best of all...'Create your BEST work'. 

 Everyday I try to do my best in exploring new ideas, new mediums, new techniques...don't always make a 'masterpiece'...but I'm working on being a better artist.

BE YOU...

...Everyone else is already taken...I say if ya like Blue lips, Pink hair, wearing all black...go for it.  You'll only pass this way once, make yourself happy...put a SMILE on your face & others that you meet.  Life is too short to live the way someone else thinks you should...be good, be kind,  be loving & above all be WACKY!  

NEW FORK in the Road...

Taking a new fork in the 'creative road'...I haven't done anything abstract in quite a few years...so here goes nothing.  I decided I needed to loosen up, so I put some Bruno Mars on...and let her rip. Love the colors I used in this...usually don't gravitate to pink, but somehow it called to me after I put the black bakground down. I'm thinking I might just have to do more of pieces like this.  I used a lot of palette knives in this...and the ends of brushes.  More please.

Found...lost MOJO!

I see that it  has almost been a year since I've last posted...YIKES!  A lot of changes have gone on in this past year...getting settled in my new home (in Florida).  Finishing up the Studio...and searching for my lost MOJO!   Found it...she was under a rock.  LOL

NEW YORK...

Throwback Thursday...Moi, my niece, little deidre, sissy, Kristine.  I was young, in my early 20's, heading off to the BIG APPLE!  Awaiting me was a great big adventure at Mademoiselle Magazine. Can you say excited beyond anything?  Fantasies do come true...I was on the College Board of Mademoiselle Mag for all 4 years.  Then the very last year I got chosen to be a GUEST EDITOR back in New York City...me, WOW!  After having 2 good friends that worked in the Fashion Office of Meier & Franks gather a great wardrobe for me to take back I was off a the adventure of a lifetime. I arrived and was taken to the World famous place where all young, proper & upcoming girls go to stay when living in NY City...the BARBIZON.  And this is  just the beginning of my fabulous tales when I was 23 and in NY...stay tuned for more....

Taking shape...

VINTAGE COUTURE...

Working in the studio...getting organized again, why do I have to that almost every week?  (am I just really a mess?)  I can across an older pastel that I had done for a series, that I called "VINTAGE COUTURE"...a collection close to my heart...since when I was a little girl I had the greatest TRUNK that my MOM help me fill with the most fabulous "DRESS-UP" clothes, somethings in the loot I had were SILVER TAP shoes, gold mesh gloves, blue satin dress with faux diamond straps...OMG did I LOVE the fashionable pieces that I had in that TRUNK.  I think between that TRUNK and my MOM being a wonderful artist, seamstress and dreamer I got my sense of fashion and love of illustration and drama...and of course the best, the LOVE OF PLAY!

HAT CRAZY...

I LOVE HATS!!!  I once had a Guest Room that had a garden theme and one wall was covered with fabulous, unique ladies hats.  Funny thing is I don't wear them...if I went to the Kentucky Derby I definately would!  Hats, Flowers, Feathers, Netting...oh my!

This is my interpretation of this oh so FAB pic...Kinda loving the coloring in this portrait...trying my hand at some pastels...I do LOVE me some COLOR!

FLASHBACK...

I'm taking you back to the 70's...I was in art School.  We were asked to pick an artist and do our interpretation of one of their pieces of art.  I chose KLIMT...not a surprise.  His dramatic women, unique faces, delicious designs, all that glittering gold...how could I not want to pick him.  Pick a pice of his I did...her is his on the left...WOW!  and mine on the right, not comparing mind you, I'm NO KLIMT, but just giving you a flashback into my world. I did this in a Silk-screen class.

 

WOMAN IN GOLD...

Before I forget you must go see "Woman in Gold".  Oh such a fabulous movie...I personally have always adored Gustav Klimt...I was lucky enough to get to see this particular painting in the Bellvedere Museum in Vienna.  I remember like it was yesterday, I was with my sister-in-law, Denise getting ready to go in the room that held all the KLIMT'S works...as I turned the corner to enter, I was as you say 'gob-smacked'.  The sheer wonder of these pieces of art up close was mind  blowing.  I couldn't get enough, I sat down on a bench in front of the Woman in Gold and stared.  The wonder and beauty of it  all.  What a wonderful experience.  Can't wait to go  visit these beautiful works of art again in New York this fall.

COLOR RUN!

For a GOOD CAUSE...I ran, okay I walked 3 miles (almost)...for abused kids & moms.  Grabbed a group of ladies from my New Hood...made us some T-shirts with our own logos on them (ladies with attitude).  Grabbed some SWEET Dr. Suess looking headbands...Mardi Gras beads and went to have some FUN!  If you ever have a chance to RUN in one of these COLOR RUN events, DO IT!   Can you say a HOOT?  You start the race with a BAND playing Rocking music...and people start throwing their bags of colored powders at each other...then a team of people on both sides of the starting point on the track are there with more colored powders to throw on the peeps...FUN!  Then the craziness just continues...finished, danced at the finish line...then drove off to a funky place to eat breakfast...in all or COLORFUL glory!  Can't wait to do this next year!

Make a mess...

Feeling "IT" today!  Enjoying playing with this wonderful 'messy' medium...at least it is for me, I love the feeling of getting my fingers in the middle of what I'm creating, I think pastels are great for that.  Love to draw faces...Call me 'INSPIRED'!

Switching gears...

Switching gears today...saw some fabulous pics of some fashion shots...I was inspired to play around with my pastels and colored pencils.  Also trying to test out filming a 'video' of me doing a 'tutorial' of  how I work, me in 'action' for my New Website...not easy, but I'll forge ahead...this will not get me!

Just say 'NO'...

This is just another little 'quickie'...trying lots if new techniques, I've never felt this comfortable just playing around with my art.  I'm used to creating things that my Clients want me to do.  I say "NO" to that.  Thhis time is now just for ME!
